I grew up in Forsyth County where I was born in 1950, the oldest of
seven children. My family may not have had much money, but we had what
we needed and we were blessed with great parents. I worked my way
through college while supporting my family, earning both a Bachelor of
Science and a Master of Engineering Degree from NC State University.
I’m married to Patricia Carson Brewer, and we have three boys. Pat
spent 22 years working as a teacher and curriculum coordinator in the
public schools and is currently Director of Brewer Testing Services. We
live in East Bend where I have resided since 1984.
I am a registered Professional Engineer, and have just retired from
Reynolds American. I also farm and manage a small business. I have
worked in many management, engineering and research and development
positions. I have been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years, and have
served on the Board of Directors of the East Bend Volunteer Fire
Department as Secretary for many years. I am also Secretary of the
Copeland Masonic Lodge. I am a Christian and a member of Richmond Hill
Baptist Church.
I enjoy flying airplanes and helicopters, teaching Sunday school,
tutoring Algebra, and have volunteered on several United Way
committees. I have almost completed construction of a two crew
experimental category helicopter.
I am East Bend's GOP Precinct Chairman and have represented Yadkin
County for several years at the State Convention. I have obtained local
and state funding for smoke detector distribution programs and was part
of a very successful effort to improve our fire rating to drastically
lower insurance costs in our fire district. No department in NC had a
better rating using only volunteer firefighters and without the
advantage of a district wide hydrant system.
